ADOPT DONATE VOLUNTEER

Weekly Update

Greetings, animal lovers! This week and in fact this past month has been very eventful. Below is a summary of each of the latest events to get you up to speed.

New Website Launched

The new website features an update to responsive design, which means it will adjust the layout to fit mobile devices such as phones and tablets. All of the high-resolution images featured on the site are of our very own shelter and foster animals. Most of these will be pets currently available for adoption. If you see a picture of an animal that intrigues you, check out the Available Pets page to learn more about them.

Annual Turkey Dinner

A free-will donation fundraising supper for Paws will take place at the American Legion Cabin on Sunday, September 25th from 4pm to 7pm.

Serving: Turkey, vegetables, desserts, mashed potatoes/gravy.

Prayers for Paws

The First Methodist Church of Pierre is partnering with Paws to have a special event. “Prayers for Paws – Blessing of the Pets” will take place at 3:00pm on Saturday September 24th at Steamboat Park in Pierre.

We recognize that pets hold a very special place in our lives and families. They are God’s gift that brings us joy and happiness and offer companionship and love.

We ask that for safety and comfort of all God’s creatures that you pets – cat, dog, hamster, snake, bird, lizard, fish, horse, pig, goat, etc. be leashed, kenneled, or contained in some manner such as an animal trailer, pet carrier, cage, aquarium, etc. If your pet is unable to travel, feel free to bring an item (toy, collar, etc.) or picture of your pet for a blessing.

We’ll have treats for both our pets and humans, along with a gift to remember the day.

Patio + Cat = Catio!

We have an exciting announcement! We’re adding a secured outdoor area our resident cats can use when volunteers are at the shelter.

Public donations for the Catio are now being accepted. This is an opportunity to become involved with supporting both PAWS and our community by increasing the quality of life for all the cats that reside at PAWS.

Sponsorship levels are as follows:

“GOLD” Siamese: $1000+

“SILVER” Persian: $500-999

“BRONZE” Tabby: $250-499

Sponsor’s names donating at the above levels will be depicted in the Catio. If you are interested in becoming a donor, or have any additional questions, you may contact Jenna Schiefelbein at [email protected].

Additionally, there is a secure donation receptacle built to look like the catio located at PAWS, specifically for the Catio fundraising. Our contractor, Jim McClelland, made the catio model. The best part is, he made it as a donation box. Please come to the shelter and see this work of art.

Donations may also be sent to:

Paws Animal Rescue, ATTN: Catio Fundraiser, PO Box 954, Pierre, SD 57501.

THANK YOU!

Cat Adoptions $40 through September!

September is Happy Health Cat Month. In honor of the occasion, Paws is offering cat adoption fees of just $40 through the end of the month. That’s less than half the usual price!

Contact Us or stop by the shelter during open hours to view our growing number of cats looking for their forever home.

Never Forgotten

neverforgotten1In our recent General Membership meeting, Dr. Lynn Tedrow from the Pierre Animal Clinic came by to discuss an important program.

Lynn and her husband have a pet crematory just outside of town. Lynn discussed the tough decision many of us have faced: when is the time to help your pet cross the rainbow bridge and the process of putting your pet to sleep.

Therese Heyer was also there to discuss the grieving process. She talked about how to get through this process easier and without any guilt. We all hope to achieve peace through grieving.

Dakotamart Receipts Wanted!

Please give your Dakotamart Receipts to Paws Animal Rescue. For every $10,000 in receipts that we turn in Paws will get $100. They may be dropped off at the shelter during open hours or through the drop slot next to the door.

We are located at 1530 N Lowell Avenue, Pierre, SD (behind WalMart off of Airport Road). You may also mail them to us at:
